As a Consultant Clinical Health Psychologist my focus is on behaviour and thought processes while as a Psychotherapist I deal with your inner world of emotions. These combined skills and 27 years of experience help me to understand and treat you.
It is a courageous step to speak with someone about what troubles you so don’t be surprised if you feel anxious about calling me. No matter how big or how small your problem is, we will discuss it together. I may ask specific questions based on what you think your problem is about. If you don’t know how to identify your problem we will work together to find out. I may ask you questions about your family history, your childhood, your life, your relationships, your habits and your problems. I may even recommend that you do certain kinds of tests to check your thinking processes (also called cognitive processes). After the assessment we will work out a treatment plan together.
Your treatment will be a collaborative journey of self-discovery through which I will walk with you. Together we will help you to find the road to physical, mental and psychological wellness.

Psychologists are experts in human behaviour. We learn how to understand people, how they think, how they act, react and interact, how they feel and what motivates them. With this specialist knowledge we are trained to understand what troubles you and to consider what scientific research says about its cause and what will be likely to help. This is called evidenced-based treatment.
I am on the BPS Register of Appliied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS) so can offer supervision to other psychologists.

There are different types of psychotherapies (talking therapies) and the schools that I have trained in are psychoanalytic psychodynamic psychotherapy and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Psychoanalytic psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you understand and resolve problems by getting to know your inner world of emotions, thoughts, feelings, defences (based on experiences) and how these influence you, your actions and your relationships in the past and the present. This means that I look all aspects of you to understand how these contribute to make you the person you are today. I am registered with the BPS as a psychologist specialising in psychotherapy. I am a Cognitive Analytic Therapist (CAT) and accredited EMDR Practitioner.
I am also on the BPS Register of Psychologists Specialising In Psychotherapy (RoPSIP)

It takes 6 to 8 years of university study to become a psychologist which includes practical training in psychiatric hospitals where we work with people of all ages with a range of mental illnesses and problems. There are nine different types of psychologists and I am trained as a Clinical Psychologist as well as a Health Psychologist. All psychologists attend regular supervision and Continuing Professional Development after qualifying and work according to a Code of Ethics and specific professional standards of conduct, performance, safety and confidentiality.
